Hammering noise

I've just got a Kubota T1400H in for repairs. When I cranked it up, sounded like someone inside the engine hammering very fast and very loud. I'm going to completely disasssemble the engine in order to find the problem. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I will find? The noise "seems" to be in time with the rotation with the crankshaft.

I'm no mechanic, but I had a very similar hammering problem with my riding mower last year, and it turned out to be a "loose"engine.
One bolt holding the engine to the frame was missing, and the other three were loose. Replaced the missing bolt and tightened them all up...no more hammering.
Just a possiblity to check before tearing the engine down.
Good Luck!

Great advice Mike. I agree. Usually a hard hammering/slamming noise is caused by a loose engine or engine pulley. Check it out and let us know what you find!
