1983 craftsman varidrive lawn tractor

Looking for the schematics for the belts on the 1983 craftsman varidrive lawn tractor. Not sure of the routing of the belts.

Hello chev1986!

Take a look on www.sears.com/partsdirect . Punch in the model# and view the diagram for the belts. The mower might be too old to be in their database. If so, try a small engine shop, or contact sears for a manual.

I just remembered I think I have one of those old varidrive sears mowers at the shop...been tucked away at the back fence for a couple years. If you can't find the info you need, let me know and I'll look at the mower I have and see if I can describe the belt setup to you.

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. My modem went bad, and I couldn't get online for a bit. I'll go look at the mower and see if it's a varidrive and let you know what I find out.

Ok...the primary drive belt goes from the engine to the varidrive pulley. It runs from the top engine pulley (pulley closest to the bottom of the engine), along the right side of the mower, on the outside of the first small pulley connected to the clutch, then to the inside of the second small pulley connected to the clutch. These small pulleys are along the right side of the underside of the mower. The first one is a V groove pulley and the v of the belt contacts the pulley. The second one has a flat surface. The flat side of the belt contacts this pulley. Then the belt goes back to the top pulley on the varidrive. The secondary drive belt just goes from the bottom pulley on the varidrive to the transaxle pulley. Hope that is clear enough. Let me know if you need more info!
