Replace Craftsman mower start cord

I was trying to restart my Craftsman 6.0 hp mulching mower (model #917 376272) and the start cord broke off when I was pulling it. I ordered the replacement start cord from Sears, but it comes with no directions for installation. I misplaced my manual too. Can anyone give me directions on how to replace the start cord? Thanks.

Hello Tenplay!

Remove the metal cover that houses the pull-rope pulley/spool. Wind the spool up in the direction it would turn when you pull the rope. Wind it up until it stops, then back it up until the hole in the spool lines up with the hole in the metal cover. Then, feed the rope through the hole in the cover, and into the hole in the spool, tie a knot in the end, and let it rewind the rope back onto the spool. Don't let it all wind up until you get the handle tied on the end of the rope.

Hope that helps!
