Other than sharpening the blade, what else can I/should I do to get my mower ready for this mowing season?

Change the oil, check the air filter or replace it. Remove and clean the spark plug. Clean the air cooling fins, if need be. Light touch of oil, if needed on the throttle lever control nearest the handle bar and at other like or similar pivot points.

Indead, do all of the things that are listed in that thread. I think that Cheese did a good job covering all the bases. Let us know how it goes.
