Best type of head for my Echo Trimmer
Hi,
I inherited an Echo SRM-2100 recently, works great but the head is not feeding the 2 line well. So I want to replace the head and I see Echo has several different types. Echomatic heads, Rapid-Loader, Dual Line Feeder, etc. Plus other manufacturers create units that can be used. Any recommendations? Do the tapper heads work well? It is not for commercial use, just my yard. Ease of use would be great for my better half.
Thanks,
Bob

re: best trimmer head
Hello bob md:
I have an SRM-2200 and had the same problem.
Mine came standard with the dual line feeder and it was fine for years but they do wear. If you remove what I'll call the "cap" of the trimmer head--where you actually wind the line-- and it looks worn and beat up, yet the part attached to the trimmer shaft looks good, all you need to replace is the "cap."
I bought one today at my Echo parts supplier and it was $13 plus tax Solved the problem and saved me $14 as a new head is $27 in this area.
Also spent $1.53 on a spring for the head on my Echo GT-2100 and now that feeds line like a champ
BTW, the original operator's manual and parts catalog for your trimmer are available as a free download at the Echo website.
Also..here's a tip I picked up from another poster here: the line can dry vout and harden. Cut the length you need and soak it in water for 12 hours or more and it feeds much better. I also went one step further and sprayed a bit of PAM cooking spray on the line and internal head housing.
That REALLY made a difference!
Good Luck,
