Where can I pick up a tach
I enjoy wrenching on small engines for myself, freinds and family.
The one thing I lack is a tach.
Can you direct me to where I can purchase a tach for small engines?
Thanks in advance,
Tom

The least expensive would be a vibratory tachometer. Amazingly accurate and available through most small engine shops. Briggs, Tecumseh and Kohler all have them available. If you're looking for a digital tach, go with Kohler's - it's the least expensive. I'd go with the vibratory, if it were me.

They work off of the vibration any given engine transmits to indicate, by means of a wire with a fluorescent colored tip that you move in and out of the tool. You twist the tach until you have a perfect circle at the wire end (the fluorescent colored part). The dial indicator on the tach then points to the RPM that you have. It works amazingly well. Tecumseh and Briggs each sell one (the exact same manufacturer, I'd say) but Tecumseh's is priced better...part number 670156, for around ten bucks. Try it, you'll like it!
