Briggs & Stratton Engine

I have a 5hp Briggs & Stratton Engine model 136200 on a go-cart. The engine is hard to start, but will. If you rev the engine using the carb it seems to run fine. If you rev the engine using the pedel it will stall out. You can sometime get it to rev up if you do it real slow and work with it. Is something wrong with the governor and/or linkages?

I hear that the throttle should be all the way open when the motor is not running. Mine is 1/2 way between open and close. Is this a sign of something?

Thanks, Keith

Hello Keith!

Try backing out the air-fuel adjustment screw 1/2 turn or so. Sounds like it is not getting enough fuel. Full throttle is normal for an engine when it is not running, but not always. Try the adjustment first, as this doesn't sound like it is related to the governor.
