Weed Eater Gas Tank Repair

I've a Weed Eater Model 1700. It is about 15 to 17 years old and really no
problems with it. It has developed a crack at the base of the gas cap. As
I'm unable to find a replacement part, what can be used to seal it that isn't
sensitive to gas? The gas tank part number is: 10887 which includes the
gas filter and fuel line.

The fuel tank you have should be available directly through Poulan/Weedeater at www.ordertree.com follow the "Illustrated Parts List" link, using your model number (1700). It will be one of two depending on whether you use a blade or not and which "Type" number you have (which is located on a tag on the machine. Otherwise, JBWeld works well on plastics. This product can be found at most automotive parts stores.

Auto Parts Store Here I Am

I called Weedeater earlier and they haven't any in stock. The trimmer is
17 years old now. I looked on your suggested web site and they haven't
any stock either. So auto parts store, where's the JBWeld?

Thanks for the help. I hate to put down an operational trimmer for a new
one.

Gas Tank Patch

The JB Weld worked fine on the plastic gas tank of the Weedeater 1700.
I was suspious, as I tried using a gasket sealer but the gas soften it and
the patch didn't hold.

So my 17 year old Weedeater is back at it again and without any gas
dripping down the side of the gas tank.

Thank you!
