murry shifting prob, deck wash

I am working on my fathers 12HP 38" murry riding mower purchased new in 1991, SN 73-1070-91. It has a Dana transaxle and will move but you cannot select a specific gear, the shifter moves freely but you don't know what gear you have selected. The shifter is connected to a shaft that goes directly in to the transaxle so I think it is an internal problem. Do you have any suggestions?

I would also like to know if you know where I can get a deck wash kit that I can install on his mower, he is 73 and I am out of town half the time so I think this would make things easier for him. Thank you very much.

Hello jd50i!

Sounds like the tranny has internal problems as you suspected. Check to be sure the shifter is securely connected to the shaft on the top of the tranny in case it is moving, but slipping on the shaft.

I don't know of any aftermarket deck wash kits available.
