craftsman 18" chainsaw won't idle

I have a craftsman 18" chainsaw (2.6 Cu in or 42 Cu cm displacement), it's a little difficult to start and you have to keep the throttle on while starting and atleast 1/4 throttle while running or it dies, it will not idle. Any help?

Hello shane157!

You should have the throttle on when you start it. As for it not idling, check to be sure the air filter is not clogged. Also, check to see if the idle speed screw might have vibrated out a few turns. You could also have carburetor problems. Probably a rich mixture, caused by misadjusted mixture screws or internal carb problems.
