generator won't start

I have a Generac SE5000 generator with a Briggs & Stratton engine(model 185432 type 0606). I last used it about a year ago and drained the fuel when I put it away. Since hurricane season is here I tried to start the generator to make sure everything was ok. The rope would not pull very far. When I removed the rope and turned the shaft by hand it would not turn 360 degrees. It stopped at the same spot no matter which way I turned the shaft. What could be causing this problem?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hello dlsmith!

Sounds to me like you have a stuck valve. Happens often on engines that are stored for long periods of time.
