How can I tell what HP my B&S engine is?

I have found a chart on B&S wessiter that explains the chart but I have a question on cubic inch displacement. According to the chart the first digit or two is the displacement. These numbers range from 6 to 58. How can I tell how many HP the engine is with these numbers?

Cubic inches cannot be converted into horsepower. There are more things to factor in. You can get the advertised horsepower from the model# though. Post it and I'll tell you what you've got if I have the info on it.

old thread i know, but i was just given a generator with a briggs motor. It has been painted. The model # is 252412. type is 015401. i am guessing its around 8 hp? all i can read of the code is the first 2, which are 78, so i know it was made in 78. I think i really need an engine breakdown schematic for this, if there is one available online. It looks like someone married this motor to a wizard(monkey ward) 5000 watt head. any help appreciated!

There are manuals online from briggs.

The illustrated parts list can be found here. Just type in the model and type.

Hello tae! That would be an 11 hp engine. If you have any questions about it, we'll be glad to help.
