snapper rear engine rider drive slipping

My Mom's old snapper was started last weekend , Hurricane Frances cleanup. Older typical rear engine model but has a virtually new motor which started and ran well...drive was slipping badly...manuals lost when Dad passed.
I can see that the drive is a rubber faced disc mating to a motor mounted flywheel... I have no previous experience with these...
Any adjustments avaiulable to the drive? The clutch pedal goes all the way out and then you have to rock the mower while in gear to get it to move....slipps badly uphill, some burnt rubber smells eminating below as well.
Seen disc replacements online, don't appear too expensive.... are they a huge pain to replace?
Anyone have an old manual available via email or fax?
