Broken B+S starter

I've got a 6.5 BS engine on a scotts 3n1 mower and the starter corp broke off and I can't figure out where the stupid thing ties back on- took off the top but I'm just not seeing it. Any help?

You'll need to rewind the spool, and feed the rope back through the hole in the top and through the hole in the spool and tie it off and let the spring rewind it back up.

Getting to spool?

Found the hole in the top and can see the spool you spoke of but it's not accessible. At least not that I can see. The rope broke outside the unit.

You have to remove the piece from the engine. It is part of the engine shroud, and the spool is accesible from the underside once you get it off.
