Self-propelled Craftsman Lawn Mower
I believe I posted this in an incorrrect forum previously... sorry..
Greeting all! I have a Craftsman 6.0 h.p self propelled Lawn mower
Model # 917376272 The self-propel unit is not working very well. It seems to start and stop on its own. I removed the plastic cover over the tranny and cleared out all debris. I noticed a small rubber filler cap on the tranny.
I removed the cap and it looks pretty dry inside. My question is what kind of
lubricant should be used to fill the tranny?

The gear box probably still has oil in, it doesnt need much and unless you can find the capacity, (bet some one round here can, I have not been able to find any service type manuals for AYP craftsman) drain the current oil and add the correct amount as there is no way to measure the level.
First thing I would check tho is your drive wheels, I've had 2 of these in as many weeks with the inside gear teeth completely gone on the wheels. LOL Sears had 40 in stock for 14.29 each I think. part # 150340
If thats not it with the cover off drive it and see if the belt slips.
