snowblower wont stay running

Have a MTD E150 snowblower... it starts, runs for a few minutes- then dies even w/o load of snow? any thing to check myself before bring in for service.

If it starts and runs ok for about 5 minutes then dies unexpectedly whether on full throttle or idle with or without snow, I would suspect the gas cap vent is plugged. You can try and loosen the gas cap a bit so air can get in to equalize the tank when the machine is running, if this makes the difference then go and buy a new gas cap. I don't recommend to try and blow snow when the cap is loosened, this is just to narrow down where your problem might be.
Another thing might be a clog in the fuel line and/or a faulty fuel shutoff valve. This would allow some fuel to fill the float bowl enough to run for a few minutes and then the fuel can't be supplied quick enough to keep it running.
