Brand new snowthrower -electric start works, recoil doesn't

I have a new troy bilt snowthrower with a 8.5 hp tecumseh engine. I ran it yesterday for the first time and the electric start worked fine on several occasions. For the giggles, I decided to test the recoil starter (with a warm engine). I shut it down and attempted to restart with the recoil but after a dozen pulls it would not turn over. To test for all things being equal, I re-attached the electric and it fired right up. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

Just a wild card guess. To start the electric, do you turn on the key and then hit the starter? If so, did you turn the key on before pulling the recoil starter?

electric works recoil dosen't

Check for snow and or ice in the recoil housing.
Use hair dryer to dry out or remove housing and check for ice, snow.
After using blower and covered with wet melting snow,it could be froze up.
Worth a try!
