Date of MCR's
Does anyone know the date (or year) Tecumseh and Briggs started using mechanial compression release devices? Also, what effect will they have on a compression test or a leakdown test. I have a TVS120, with a compression test of 46 lbs....is this too low or could could the MCR be having an effect on it? Also, doesn't the MCR lift the exhaust valve?

I don't know when they started this, but yes, it's the exhaust valve that is held open. I don't usually rely on compression tests on small engines, but the low reading may be caused by the comp release. You can loosen the exhaust valve to eliminate the effect of the comp release for testing purposes.
