Question B&S doesn't restart after being shut down

We have a snapper 12lt riding lawnmower. It has a Briggs and Stratton Motor Model # 404437 Type 1205, it has 12.5 h.p. It runs pretty good, but in the last year it has been acting up. When we start it cold it does fine. After we have been using it for a hour or more and have to shut it down for some reason, it does not like to start back up. The engine turns over fine but it doesn't fire. One of the things that we noticed was when the engine was hot and had not cooled down that there was very little spark. Once the motor sets for 15-20 minutes the spark is much stronger and it starts. We are wondering how to figure out why it won't start when it is hot?

Chances are the ignition coil is breaking down when hot. The moment you have trouble you need to hook up a Briggs 19368, ignition tester in-line between each spark plug (still installed) and the coil wires and check for spark. No spark - replace the coil, spark - look further, carb, valve train, etc. For reference: Briggs ignition coil for your model - 394891.
