lawn mower starting question
I pulled my lawn mower out of winter storage and started it up to see how
it would run before i needed it. However, when i pulled the rope starter i heard a clicking noise briefly. Every time i restarted it i heard the same brief clicking noise. I'm wondering if its just the weights on the flywheel being a little sticky from sitting all winter. Other than that,it starts and runs fine.
Your thoughts please.
thanks

There should be NO weights on the flywheel making noise...?!?!? More likely during storage an encounter with another item in storage, possibly denting or dislocating a shroud.
You made no mention of what type or sort of mower....?
Mice and pack rats favor riding mower engine compartments for nests during winter.
Look for external signs of physical damage.

The mower is a self propelled Murray about 10 years old. 6hp B&S.
Your suggestion on checking the schroud is a good one. Mower is stored in a garden shed off season. Have been storing mower with gas stabilizer in fresh gas for years, and mower, and my snow blower, always starts when the season begins.
Noise seems to come from the intial pulling of the starter rope to start.
I know i didn't hit or run over anything when i put it away.

As Azis pointed out, did something possibly drop onto the engine in your shed and dent the shroud/starter housing? If nothing is apparent, i'd suggest removing the starter/shroud to inspect. You hate to run the thing with any foreign object in there. A possibility is that the starter pawl(s) are damaged causing the noise. In either case, removal of the starter/shroud will be in order.
