ariens snowthrower axle

undefined
I have an old Ariens Snowthrower Model #10M6D, SN 43738, that needs new axle bearings. Question: how is the axle removed? There is a spline cut into the axle where it fits through the gear that drives the machine, but there does not seem to be any movement of the shaft relative to that gear. No obvious solution; any assistance appreciated.

Pull the left wheel off. There will be a 1/4" roll pin you need to remove in the differential lock-out. Inside the tranny area on the right side (just inside the frame) there will be a 3/16" roll pin to remove from the axle. Both axle "halves" can now be pulled out of the differential gear thereby allowing you to now replace the axle bushings. Be sure to clean everything well using an 80 grit emery cloth and use a "00" grease when reassembling.
