Mower Or Mulcher?

My thanks to Ed Imeduc and Cheese for the answers to my questions on oil. Now I need to know what the difference is in a regular power mower and a mulching mower. I have a mulching mower but don't see any difference. The grass cuttings that come out of the chute look like any other cuttings laying on the lawn. Am I doing someting wrong?

The mowers are the same except for the blades and possibly the deck configuration (IE:Mulch only, mulch/side discharge, mulch bag etc). The blades have different lift or aero and distribute the cuttings differently. A mulching blade is not meant to cut tall grass and will not work properly.
Some 2 in 1 or 3 in 1 mowers may require a seperate mulching blade be used for mulching and another blade for normal discharge mowing.

In addition to Azis comments,
The grass cuttings that come out of the chute look like any other cuttings laying on the lawn.
If you are intending to mulch, you need to close off the discharge opening.

ALSO CANNOT EXPECT TO CUT THICK GRASS AS IT WILL CLUMP UP... YOU WILL HAVE TO CUT MORE OFTEN TO KEEP FROM CUTTIN TOO MUCH AT 1 TIME TO MULCH ... USUALLY NO MORE THAN 1 INH AT A TIME

can't mulch

I thank all of you who answered my question.
I guess I have a regular mower because my grass is always
too long before I get around to cutting it. Now I know why the
previous owner of the mower took the cover off the discharge
chute. He didn't give the cover to me when I bought the mower, so I
have a regular mower even if I do cut the grass more often.
Thanks again.
