Make sure the rocker arm is straight, contacting the valve in the center of the rocker arm and not on the side.

The rocker arm is straight and contacting right. Every time I try to turn it over, the rod gets bent. I replaced it with a new one hoping the old one was just weak from being bent and straightened again, but as soon as I tried to turn it over the new one got bent too.

I've tried everything I can think of and I'm at a loss. The float in the carb went bad and I had a problem with gas filling everywhere. Replaced the carb. Could that have caused some kind of screw up concerning the rod that I'm just missing?

Thanks for your help.

It sounds to me like the exhaust valve is stuck. If the valve can't move, then the pushrod will bend trying to move it.
