Mower [Engine Running Problem]

I have a international cub cadet (older one )125. When I get it started it runs for a short time then quits. When I try to start it again it back fires and won't start. Also what does the L on the voltage reg mean and should a wire be hooked up to it?

Hello gbpack1950!

Been awhile since I've worked on one of those. Great machine!

I think you have either a valve that is sticking, or an ignition problem, possibly the coil. Does this have an external automotive-type coil? Also, if there is water in the points enclosure, it can cause this. When the engine warms up, the water turns to steam and condensates on the points, causing it to backfire, run erratically, and/or not start.

I believe that the L connection is for lights.
