lawnmower problems

i have 4.o hp murray that i need help with. when trying to start it offers no resistance flywheel turns but nothing happens i pulled the flywheel didn't notice anything .I notice it was getting hard to pull before this happened then wouldn't do anything please help

Sounds like a broken connecting rod inside the engine. Remove the spark plug, move the plug wire safely out of the way, with an assistant pull the engine over holding your thumb over the spark plug hole and feel if there is any pressure (compression). If not, then the piston is not moving OR you may have a stuck valve. Removing the cylinder head will tell you which it is.
