Craftsman 917-387023 shuts off

Hey Guys!!! Help!!!

My Craftsman 917-387023(Briggs & Stratton 4.0) push mower wont stay on. There is plenty of gas and oil but after priming and cranking the motor shuts off after about 5secs . I checked the plugs and they seem fine.

What now?

You checked the plugS? This is a single cylinder. What "plugs" did you check? Did you check for spark? Your description of the problem sounds like you need to replace the carb diaphragm, but check for spark first.

Ok, just wanted to be sure we were on the same page. I thought is was an error at first, but then you said "they" (plural again), so I wanted to be sure. You never know, lol.

Ok, I just looked up your mower, and it appears as though you have a tecumseh engine, not B&S, correct? It won't have a diaphragm. On this one, you'll probably have to remove the bowl screw, clean it out well (4 tiny holes in it), and clean the bowl out.
