MTD yard machine won't start, no spark

Hi all,
I got a 1.5 yrs old lawn mower, been used 5-6 times only, fresh gas, oil full, air cleaner ok, bought new spark plug, I had it running about 3 weeks ago and now it won't start. A friend of mine at work checked it and found out there is no spark but you can smell gas on the spark plug.
Any ideas? Please help. Thx.

Hello Jon!

Does it have spark with a new dry plug? How many times are you priming it?

Hi Cheese,

I couldn't wait so I brought it out for repair, they had to change the magneto and I was surprised it was still under warranty

) so I didn't have to pay for it.

Craftsman tractor fuel overflowing!

Hello: I have a 16.5 HP Briggs and Stratton 5-yrd old Craftsman. A few days back, after emptying the gas tank, I filled it half with gas to get ready for the next mow. Then a a day later i noticed gas leaking at the bottom of the tractor and realized the gas used to fill 1/2 of the tank from the previus day had vanished! The gas somehow leaked into the cylinder head and the oil pan was full of it as well..... I spoke to a co-worked and he mentioned that Craftsman tractors have a bad problem with the carbuerators that allows gas to leak. He told me that on his Craftsman, he installed a shut-off valve betwee the fuel pump and the gas tank and turns it OFF when the tractor is not in use. He told me to drain the oil pan, remove the sparkplug and turn the ignotion which would squirt out additional gas. With gas out of control, I'm concerned with fire hazard....but he said it was ok to use....and that he would provide a shut off valve. Has anyone encountered this problem? What the solutions, and most of all, is it safe to use the tractor or have the carbereutor replaced? I don't want to buy a new tractor if I don't have to.... TomRead More

Huskee model 708 deck problems

My Huskee 18.5 hp tractor with a 42" deck won't cut evenly with the mulch kit installed. I've gone through all the possible adjustments 3 times and it leaves the grass high in the middle of the deck. Everything is in adjustment, the blades are new and sharp, I've tried different ground speeds, but nothing works. :wall: As of now, I make a half cut (21") to get the grass even. Sort of makes owning a tractor usless. Anybody have any ideas The deck has only 2 blades, the deck height adjustments have been checed and double checked. I even made sure the spindles were straight and plumb.Read More
