Surging Mower

Hello- I have a Snapper Big Six mower. The engine model is B&S 124802, type 3210. I bought the mower from a dealer last year, it was used. It ran perfectly until recently, however, now it surges while at high idle. I have replaced the air filters and the spark plug, but it still surges after using it for a while. Any suggestions, I can't seem to find a mixture adjustment screw, my thoughts are to remove the fuel tank to check for contamination. Thanks.
