Transmission problem with Scott's J Deere Lawn Tractor

Hello all just wondering if anyone knows how to fix a Scott's J Deere Lawn tractor transmission. The problem is the selector is out of alignment. That is Reverse is where Neutral is supposed to be Neutral is where 1st is etc....the mower model is an S1742 with the Briggs & Stratton engine and not the model with hydrostatic drive.

I don't have a manual for it to see how the linkage is set up, but normally the shifter handle gets bent forward a bit, and causes the gears to be selected as you described. I normally block the handle from moving down close to the tranny, and pull back on the handle to bend it back so that it is in the neutral slot when the tranny is in neutral.
