power problem

I have a 1998 mtd / yardman . I was rehooking the wire to one of the headlights and i must have grounded it somehow and lost all power including the engine stopped running also. is there a inline fuse on the newer mtd products??.

Yes, there is a fuse. Look for a small red wire connected to the battery post on the starter solenoid. This wire, when traced back, should have a fuse inline in close proximity to the solenoid.

Craftsman Highwheel Weedtrimmer Won't Start

My Craftsman 5.0 hp Highwheel Weedtrimmer, Model 536.77350 will not start. I have cleaned out the carbuerator bowl, checked the gas line, installed new gas, removed the air filter and they all appear okay. On a prior occasion when it would not start, I found that the ground wire on the control bracket had come off and therefore it was not making a complete circuit and would not start. I reconnected the wire and it started immediately. A year later, I am trying to start it up again without success. I don't believe I am getting a spark. I removed the spark plug from the engine, left it connected placed it next to metal, pulled on the rope, saw no spark. I think it may either be that the ground wire on the control bracket is not making a good connection or I have a bad coil. Does anyone know if there is a way for me to determine whether I have a bad coil. Any other suggestions. Thank you, okgat :)Read More

craftsman tiller doesn't idle correctly

I have a crafttsman rear tine tiller with a 6hp Tecumseh engine model # 917.293650 . The tiller starts fine, but while idling the govenor will open up and then close off sometimes resulting in engine stall. It only does this when the tiller is not under load. When you are tilling the engine will stay at a relatively constant rpm, but as soon as you pick it up out of the dirt the rpms start going up and down. If you push in the primer bulb it will even out. Also if you just simply put your hand over that area of the carb it will even out. I replace the primer bulb thinking it had a hole and was getting to much air or something in it but that didn't help. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
