Toro transmission

I have a 22" Toro walk behind with avariable speed self propelled transmission. The gears are worn down and need to be replaced. My question is; is it normal for these gears to go bad in 3 seasons? I have a good sized yard, it takes about an hour to an hour and 15 minutes to mow, and I mow once a week. It isn't hilly, so it seems the thing should last longer.

Unfortunately, they don't make 'em like they used to. I wouldn't say your problem was out of the ordinary.
