Oil coming out of chainsaw muffler

I have an old McCullough Eager Beaver 2.0 chainsaw. After I start it, it runs rough for a few minutes and then dies. Oil is coming out of the muffler. I have replaced the air filter and also installed a new sprocket drum. Any help you can give me to get this saw running is appreciated. Still trying to recover from 2 hurricanes.

Could simply be that there is too much oil in the fuel mixture? Also, if the carb is in need of repair or the choke is not opening all the way, it could do this.

Thanks for the reply. I adjusted the carb fuel and idle settings and the saw is working fine now. Seems the mixture was too rich going and loading down the engine.

Would someone mind explaining (in detail) just how a breather operates on a lawn mower engine? What are the symptions of an engine if the breather closes up and also opens up? Honda HR 214 Mower Carb Problems

The last 2 times I've run it out of gas my 1987 Honda HR 214 lawnmower ran slowly and without power on restart and would not run at all unless it was on choke. I've replaced the air filter, fuel filter, and removed/cleaned/disassembled the carb the 1st time this happened and removed the float bowl and cleaned the needle seat the 2nd time. I did not use a rebuild kit. After replacing the cleaned carb the 1st time this happened the engine ran very well, perhaps stronger than it ever had. I've had no luck with the steps I've taken this 2nd occurrence. Should I replace the carb? If so, which engine do I have? GX-120? All the ebay listings for carburetors seem to list engine but not the mower model. Should I do something else?Read More
