McCollough(sp) MISTAKE!!!

This weekend went to 3 different house sales!
Found a Mccollough 2816 2 cycle weed trimmer. Auctioneer started it up,ran great, had it turned away from the crowd,so grass clippings wouldn't fly out. He said. $20.00 later, I have it. The head doesn't turn very fast. won't clip a dogs short and curlys!!! Is there a shaft or cable that runs thru the curved tube? Is the centrifical clutch wearing out?
Where to buy replacment parts, plus the regularparts like plugs, air filter, gas line etc?
TIA
Terry

Sorry to say you may be the proud new owner of a perfectly good boat anchor...parts are no longer made and I doubt there is a surplus of them especially for trimmers.
Couple things to check is does the engine ever rev up to full speed...? If not remove the shaft and see if it runs different without it. If the carb is out of adjustment or the fuel system is restricted it could cause your symptoms. Also check for a pluged exhaust or spark arrestor.
If the shaft is in need of more than some cleaning and lubricating, I have been told parts are not available.

MTD has bought out the McCulloch name and some of their new equipment uses the same parts as the old ones. Post back with the ID sticker numbers (model and serial) and i'll check if this is true. If not available through MTD sources, I'll PM you with a source for parts.

McCulloch Mistake!!!

Sorry I haven't gotten back to everyone.
Had to go to the other end of Iowa for the last 6 days.
Cheese the numbers I found were:
ct m 28cc
smh032ub24ra em
in little white square D 007
I asked the auctioneer if I could get my money back, he said all sales final!
I will be going to ALL his sales that I can get to, and help someone else from
going thru this also.
Thanks for the help!!!
