Lawn Tractor Problem

I have a sears lawn mower 15.5 HP Model 917259530,. The problem I am having is the engine turns over, but if I take my foot off the clutch the engine dies. If I try to engage the blade the engine dies. I have a jumper on the seat switch. The lights come on no problem, and if I put the brake on the engine stays on. I have the gearshift in the N position. Any ideas?
Thanks In advance

Hello Ken,

You're on the right track with the seat switch, but jumping it won't help. It has an internal shunt in the connector on the mower's wiring harness to the seat switch. When the seat switch is unplugged, it shorts inside the connector. If you'll notice, there is a plunger between the connectors on the harness, and on the switch is a bump that pushes this plunger when it is connected tight. Usually re-connecting the switch and pulling the connection tight with a cable tie does the trick.
