Craftsman 8 hp wood chipper
I recently purchased a 9 year old Craftsman wood chipper with an 8 hp B & S engine. It starts and runs fine except I think it is running slow. Since most small engines develop their rated horsepower at 3600 rpm, I think it should be set to that rpm. Does anybody know if this is correct???? How do I set the speed control without a tachometer???? Thanks for your help.

3600 is by far the most common setting but not the only. Without your engine ID #'s we can't advise any further. The only way to set the RPM's without a tach. is by a well trained ear. Most Briggs and Tecumseh dealers will be able to get you a vibratory tachometer for little money. Check with your local OPE repair shop for such.
