Generac 10hp B&S engine surging

8-yr old Generac generator with B&S 10hp. Starting cold, engine runs great for about 40 mins, then begins serious surging. Repeats surging symptom thereafter on about a 2 minute frequency, at last it may die. Have changed air filter, spark plug, fuel filter and flushed float bowl, valves and other venturies in carb with carb cleaner. Flushed tank then used new fuel. Also, insulated fuel line from muffler heat source using asbestos cloth wrapping. Sounds like fuel starvation to me, but am open for other suggestions and/or cures (short of hauling to a repair shop). Thanks.

would stay away from asbestos....... anyway, would this be a ohv or side valve engine? vertical or horizontal crank? could maybe be a air leak. or you may need to adjust the fuel mix. did you take the adjustment screws out ( if it has them) clean through there? reset em counting turns out, or not and used the 1.5 turns out after all the way in snug? then it does need to be fine tuned though when warmed up. was this stored for a quite some time with fuel in it? maybe gumming it up

try loosening the fuel cap--let some air in--sounds like it's got a plugged vent.
