Peerless Transmission Leak

I have a Toro HMR 1600 mod 55620-900000 (and up) with twin Peerless (tecumseh) transmissions. They work fine, but I noticed a puddle of the black grease that they fill these things with at the factory forming under each one of the trannies on the disc brake side coming out behind the disc. The last time I had this happen, one of the shafts was eating thru a bushing and getting into the case. (on another mower and on the drive sprocket side, no bearing there) This is not the case here. I took both apart and other than noticing that the shaft is not turning solidly with the inner bearing race, I cant see anywhere else this grease can be leaking from. Am I into new shafts and bearings to correct this problem?

yeah you probablly are..... though they don't fill em with grease, they fill em with 80w-90 gear oil, just incase you go to fill it
