mtd auger

I'm trying to replace the auger on my MTD snow thrower. How does the belt wheel come off? I have tried everything to remove it. I guess it may be rusted on, but it doesn't look like it.

Some heat by way of oxy/acet likely will be needed at the hub of the pulley, using two crowbars wedged under the hub applying pressure and having a waste bolt in the center of the pulley backed out (but with plenty of thread in the shaft) and then hit with a substantial hammer. Two people will be needed to best do this.

Most will come off with an automotive ball joint remover and a hammer. It is just a big fork with tapered tines. They come in different sizes for tie rods etc. and are major time savers. If one doesn't work two will if you force them under from opposing directions to apply an even push on the pulley hub.
