Ariens snow blower.....
Anyone own an Ariens snnow blower? How do you like it? I presently have a John Deeree and love it but its 15 years old and I have seen Ariens 26" cut blowers on sale. Any input? Thanks Tim

Thanks for your opinion JLOpower. I have posted the question on other forums and get pretty much the same answer as you gave. Sounds like Ariens makes solid machines

Ariens is probly the best of the middle of the line models and I would recomend them to anyone. One thing going for it over al the crappier versions (MTD,Toro, the new john Deere which are all offshoots of the Murray model) is ts koyalty to a simple design and the haeyier guages of steel used in its manufacture. If you are looking for the best I would still say Honda (or a used Yamaha if you are lucky enough ti find it) with its tracked system and shaft drive it goes through even the ugliest grader berms.

Ariens just sold their 2 millionth snow blower. I have two - a 1970 my dad bought and a 1995 I bought used last year. They extensively upgraded their line in 2006 and also started selling machines with B&S engines in addition to the Tecumsehs.
I completely restored the 1970 and all the parts were readily available at the dealer. Many of them have been "superceded" with newer designs but were "forward compatible" - that is the new parts fit the old machines as well. I didn't find anything on the 1970 that won't last another 15 years (to make 50) except the engine, which I replaced with a new Briggs Intek Snow. I'm impressed with their engineering.
HD is selling the Compact and Deluxe models at up to 33% off: absurd prices. The Professional models are still sold only by OPE dealers.

Fantastic job on the '70. When I figure out how to upload pics to this site, I'll show you a pic of mine. A 1971 that was a complete ground up restore with a Orange flip-flop on the main chassis and a white flip-flop elsewhere and a new Tecumseh 7 horse, overhead valve. Awesome machine both in aesthetics and functionality. I would own no other make snowthrower. Tim, in my personal opinion, I'd go with a model with a lockout differential. In other words, the "Pro" series.
