Lawnboy won't run

4 hp 2 cycle engine- It does not spark at all- Pulled plug out- looks good, engine has deadman lever on handle- can you bypass this somehow to determine if it;s coil or deadman switch? Spins easy with plug out, seems to have compression when plug hole is covered with thumb. Suggestions? I don't know if it was running or not before- friend asked me to look at it- joe

Hello Joe!

Disconnect the kill wire from the coil and check for spark. If you have spark, then there is a problem in the kill circuit. If you have no spark, and the coil gap is correct (about .010"), then the coil is bad.
