30 cc Trimmer Engine not working

Hi, I have a Ryobi BC 30 Timmer/Brushcutter that stopped working this morning as I was using it. It had been making a clanking sound but I wasn't sure where it was coming from, then the engine completely stopped. When I pull on the starter rope, it feels as though it is not grabbing the crank shaft or gear or whatever it needs to grab inorder to start the engine. I tried to remove the engine from the plastic housing but can not get the housing off over the piston cover. (i think that's what it's called). Any ideas first on how to get that off so I can try to see what might be wrong? Any ideas on what might be wrong?

Before you go into it, is there any warranty on it?
