replacing starter rope on Craftman snowblower

Last fall the starter rope on my snowblower snapped. The motor is craftsman part 143.015007. It looks like the blower housing needs to be removed to access the rewind starter. Anyone know if this is the case or can the rewind stater be removed without removing the blower housing?

Thanks,

Eric

What brand engine? Either case, the shroud must come off to gain access to the recoil starter.

The rewind starter can be removed without removing the blower shroud. This is a Tecumseh (based on the model #...143.) and the starter is held on by two (possibly four) tiny screws. You will need a 1/4" combo wrench to remove them. Easy.

Thanks puey61, I cannot believe I missed those two screws, must just be because it was always cold and dark when I was looking!

Our pleasure. Now be sure to pre-load the spring properly when you replace the rope. Otherwise, you'll have rope dangling from the starter housing. BTW, it will hold about 5' of #4.5 rope.
