Gas leaking out of hose comming from crank case

I seen the gas tank was empty and noticed it was dripping from the vent hose from the crank case. Why is it doing this? I dont think gas is mixing with the oil. Its a 12.5 hp briggs verticle shaft engine. It leaked out pretty quickly.

check the oil for gas smell...and /or way too much oil....it sounds like the carburetor bowl inlet seat /needle is leaking and allowing the gas to go into crankcase...if that is the case change oil and rebuild carb, put on a new fuel filter also.

When you have the carb apart, shake the float to make sure there is no fuel sloshing around inside it. A new float does not come in a carb repair kit & can lead to many nightmares The voice of expierince
