Lawnmower has gone crazy

I have a 18 HP Kohler engine in a 42 inch craftsman mower. I was mowing the other day when the engine started to really go fast. It made the mower go really fast also. I checked the belts and seemed ok. I turned it off and still accellerates very very fast. I kinda think it is the Govenor by looking at my owners manual, but really not sure. Does anyone have a suggestion? If it is the govenor, does anyone know where it is on this particular engine?

Also I did look at the cable that goes to the throttle and seems to be entact

I'll bet the throttle shaft has worn in two, or the throttle place came out of the carburetor. Give it a look. If so, you may have those parts imbedded in the top of the piston. Hopefully all parts are still in the carb or intake.

My mower won't start, it was running great, turned it off to move one of the few hundred toys in my yard and it wouldn't restart...its getting spark...if I put a little gas in the carb it will start, but only run for a second till it burns that little bit of gas..the carb is full of gas and the fuel filter is not clogged..gas pours through it when I pull the line off...but some how its not getting to the engine..I've also checked the only jet I could find and its not clogged... Does anyone know what the gold tube/plug is on the bottum of the carb bowl??(and if so could that be the problem??..it has a small two prong plug on it and a little plunger end inside the bowl....My mower does not have a fuel pump or an elctric choke...So any ideas??Read More

blade sharpening

Just checking to see waht the do's and dont's are for sharpening lawnmower blades. I have a couple that need to be sharpened but have never done it. I assume just taking a course file to it or using a benchtop grinder and follow the bevel. It looks like on both blades only about the first 5" on each end get sharpened.Read More
