Generator Blues

I have a small generator. It will start and run (badly), but it burns oil, and worse, it shoots oil out of the carb. I read a post that said that the needle could be dirty, and the float stuck. Could this be the problem? is there hope for this generator... It is a gasoline generator 10.5 hp coleman. Briggs and Stratton motor.

first, make sure the crankcase is not over filled or has been diluted and over filled by a bad needle / seat. if that is ok, then you likely need to look at the intake valve / seat condition and valve stem clearance bad rings and a bad intake would allow blowby to exit through the carb. blue smoke is from oil and black smoke would be from a poorly adjusted or faulty carb . have a compression and leakdown test done at a shop before any repairs and consider a short block for a quality repair.

Vertical or horizontal crankshaft engine? Specifically, what are the engine ID numbers?
