My mower is ill!

I have a Mastercraft 38" riding lawn mower with a techumseh 12hp engine. OHV12 202706A SER3039D

I had the mower running for about an hour for the first time this year, it stalled and would not start again.

Let it cool down -still would not start- It seemed like it was trying to -but it just would not fire. It eventually changed to a click click.

Replaced sparkplug, replaced gas filter, checked oil and gas levels. Battery is good and fully charged.

All I get is click click.

I understand that one of the safety switchs may not be good or the solenoid. How can I check them.

Start with the obvious. Recharge the battery and see what happens. The "click, click" is usually the solenoid but there is not enough battery power to spin up the starter. If it starts after recharge but hen goes dead after a few hours, the battery probably needs replacement. Most mower batteries only last two or three years.
