Chainsaw question

Am I doing a harm to my chainsaw by running used 5w-30 oil from my lawnmowers instead of chain oil to lube the chain it works no problems that I can see.

Using 5w-30 would be less of a problem than it being used 5w-30 I would think.

Measure it with a micrometer; cut it with an ax.

I just figured that since I can't get rid of it and my only 2 choices are to take it to the recycle center or dig a hole and dump it so I figured I put it to use.

engine oil will fly off the chain and not lube as well as bar oil.
of course, it's better than no oil.

anything will worik as long as you don't do much heavy cutting. The elcheapo bar and chain oil won't sling off near like motor oil.

I ran out of bar oil one day and dumped some motor oil in. I didn't get very far until the chain started rattling and was lose as a goose.

I almost always use motor oil in my chainsaws, never had any problems but then I'm not a logger The only worry I would have with used oil would be if it had any contamiments that might plug up the oiler with repeated use.
