Chainsaw question
Am I doing a harm to my chainsaw by running used 5w-30 oil from my lawnmowers instead of chain oil to lube the chain it works no problems that I can see.

Using 5w-30 would be less of a problem than it being used 5w-30 I would think.

I just figured that since I can't get rid of it and my only 2 choices are to take it to the recycle center or dig a hole and dump it so I figured I put it to use.

its a 14 inch polan chainsaw and I don't use it much once in a while.
Posted By: HenryJ anything will worik as long as you don't do much heavy cutting. The elcheapo bar and chain oil won't sling off near like motor oil.
I ran out of bar oil one day and dumped some motor oil in. I didn't get very far until the chain started rattling and was lose as a goose.
