Briggs & Stratton Engine runs rich

I have a Sears Craftsman ridding lawnmower 17HP turbo Cooled, model 311707 type 0026-E1. After awhile of using the mower the mower started to putt, and slow, then it will stop and wont start. The spark plug when removed is covered in oil it seems. How can I fix this.

The symptoms sound to me a lot like water getting in the carb. Drain the carb bowl to eliminate that. If it still won't start, check for spark and let us know what you find.

Thanks I took apart the carb and cleaned the air filter and it seems to be running good at the moment.

Thanks again
