Ok to replace rubber fuel line with plastic fuel line?

I am replacing my in tank fuel filter. I bought the tiller used and it's fairly old, so I figured I would replace the fuel line between the filter and the carb. Can I replace the rubber fuel line with plastic?

Is there any difference between the two?
