cfaftsman rider blade replc.
The question is does Craftsman use helicoil inserts as threads for the bolts that hold the blades tight.I am unable to tighten one blade completely. How are the insert removed? Will I need an extractor or is their a technique trick?

As far as I know, Craftsman doesen't use any "helicoils" & I don't know of any tools to remove them. If the threads that hold the blade on are stripped, replace the shaft or tower, before someone looses a foot

Correct. No mower companies use any sort of helicoil to make threads in the blade jackshaft. A helicoil is a repair type of device. Not reccomended for repairing blade bolt holes either. You can just replace the jackshaft for about $10-$15 if it is a twin blade deck with the star shaped hole in the center of the blades.

Right hand threads
Thanks for the info.I am trouble shooting for my dad who is in another city.Yes,it's a 42" cut, twin blade Craftsman. Are both blades held with right hand threads?

Yes, regular right hand threads. I think it's a 3/8" bolt probably 24 tpi threads, around 1 1/2" long.
